What would Peter tweet? – a great article by Will Mancini

What would Peter tweet?.

Did you ever wonder if the disciples had social media, which channels would they use the most?  No, well then it’s just me I guess.  I am convinced that the disciples of Jesus would have totally embraced social media to spread the Gospel (of course, Thomas would have been a late-adopter!). This is how I envision the early church using social media:

Peter would be a prolific tweeter, sharing events and stories of people that were being saved.  I think he would use Instagram to share photos of the people and the mission work going on in and around Jerusalem.

Mark would be a regular Facebooker, sharing stories of Jesus’ ministry in action and links to the mission activities for everyone to plug in.  He would also maintain a YouTube account for the video he captured on his Flip of the early church members  serving the community.

Matthew probably would have utilized private community platforms, like Yammer, where people who shared a common tradition could communicate in their own terms and context.

Luke would have utilized multiple platforms to tell the stories of the faith.  I see Luke as a Facebook timeline pro, also utilizing Instagram and Youtube and regular blogging to fully paint the pictures of the Gospel in words and images.

Paul would be the ultimate social media pro, or the Leonard Sweet of his day!  He would be a prolific tweeter, sending encouragement and instructions to all churches under his tutelage and everyone else for that matter.  I see Paul blogging regularly and also using LinkedIn to connect with key people in communities where he traveled that could help him propel his ministry to Rome and beyond!

I know this is a huge stretch of the imagination and a big “WHAT IF” but indulge me for a moment to make my point.  The disciples had limited communication tools but spread the Gospel to all corners of the known world, it just took a century or two.  We can send a message instantaneously around the world to millions of people using the tools we have available on our smartphones.  What is keeping you from  using the technology that rests in the palm of your hand to share the Good News of Jesus Christ? Really, I’m waiting
