We are here! In the desert! We have started the season of Lent. This is a season of penitence: fasting, prayer, almsgiving, mediation, reflection, serving, waiting, and caring. Traditionally, this is known as the season of the desert—a place where we contemplate the ordinary. To help us in the journey of our “self-awareness” within the Kingdom of God, we begin a series of 5 sermons on the disciplines of Lent. I’ll be preaching this Sunday on the Discipline of practicing the presence of God. While I’m away, the Rev. Dr. Ed Hird will be preaching on the disciplines from the book of Proverbs. I’ll preach the last sermon in Lent on my return. For the next five weeks, I encourage you to consider the desert and what you might learn there. The good news is that this journey in the desert is done in community. So come, join us as we worship the triune God together.
