Property Theft Crime Wave in White Rock/South Surrey?

LETTERS: Peninsula seems to be experiencing a property-theft crime wave – Peace Arch News

January 26th 2023

Dear Peace Arch News Editor,
When we moved to the South Surrey/White Rock area, we were impressed by how peaceful and friendly that the neighborhood was. As President of our Strata Complex, we have seen very little crime and breakins until the last few months when we have been broken into several times. So have other neighbouring complexes.
It feels to many like we are experiencing a property theft crime wave with professional criminals moving in from other areas. In talking to our local MLA Trevor Halford, even his office has been broken into.
Since talking to the police, our strata residents are  becoming involved in Blockwatch, something I would recommend for other SSWR neighbours. Improving security camera systems and hardening access doors is key for all SSWR complexes.
Are however the provincial and federal governments letting us down with bail being too easy for repeat and even violent offenders? Our local MP is calling for an end to the ‘catch and release’ program with criminals. Are we tying the hands of our police?

Let’s make South Surrey/White Rock safe again for law-abiding citizens.

Rev. Dr. Ed Hird

Peace Arch News on the Coldest Night walk

It was a joy to be part of our MP Kerry-Lynne D Findlay’s team for the CNOY charity walk for the Sources Food Bank. Here is the video of the walk at White Rock Beach promenade. It is not too late to click on this link and donate to this good cause, helping the hungry and homeless.
Sources’ Coldest Night of the Year outpaces $185k
TRACY HOLMES, Feb. 28, 2022 3:30 p.m.COMMUNITY
Sources’ Coldest Night of the Year event raised $185,000 and counting.

Organizer Abby Gemino said fundraising from the past weekend is continuing through March 31, with the hopes of hitting the $200,000 goal set for the 2022 affair.

“We had a great turnout for both our opening and closing ceremonies and our CNOY Sources Facebook Group page was flooded with fun photos share by our walkers,” Gemino told Peace Arch News Monday (Feb. 28) by email.

A virtual opening ceremony was held over Zoom on Friday, featuring an interactive game of trivia, as well as prizes and draws.

On Walk Day – Saturday, Feb. 26 – a warm-up video helped participants limber up before setting out on a two- or five-kilometre route of their choosing, while a scavenger hunt offered one lucky walker a chance at a new pair of shoes, via a $200 gift certificate from Kintec Footwear.

The event concluded with a virtual closing ceremony on Sunday evening.

Gemino said in addition to pacing local trails and neighbourhoods, participants walked in many other areas of the province – from Parksville to Northern B.C. and sundry communities in-between.

The family-friendly winter event is designed to raise awareness – and funds – for charities supporting people who are hungry, homeless and hurting. Funds raised locally will support community programming including SOURCES’ Homelessness Prevention Services, and its Rent Bank (which is completely funded by CNOY).

Missing sailboat

The heavy winds drove a stray sailboat from the States to White Rock beach. Was this a possible Fenian invasion as prompted the birth of Canada in 1867? 😉 After quite a delay, it was finally removed.

White Rock Promenade Reopened

The White Rock Promenade has been reopened. Click to view a video of my first prayer walk this early Sunday morning along the White Rock Promenade since COViD-19 shut everything down along the White Rock Beach.‬

“I’m afraid there’s been an accident…”

12bdf6ff-3021-4e73-bccd-bc919398d1a0-7068-0000031133e7b4d9Sandy Brown and her family have just moved to Spokane, Washington where her husband, Scott, is pastoring a new church. With a fresh start, Sandy is determined to devote more time to her four children. But, within weeks of settling in their new life, the Brown family is plunged into turmoil.

Sandy receives shocking news that her children aren’t safe, which brings back haunting memories of the trauma she experienced as a girl. Then, the unthinkable happens…

A brutal attack puts Sandy on the brink of losing everything she’s loved. Her faith in God and the family she cherishes are pushed to the ultimate limit.

Is healing possible when so many loved ones are hurt? Are miracles really possible through the power of prayer? Can life return to the way it was before?

The Iconic White Rock Pier

When is the last time that you have seen the iconic White Rock Pier and the classic White Rock itself that have been through storms and now affected by the COViD-19 shutdown? Sometimes it feels like the ‘secular puritans’ have decided to ban all fun, regardless of healthy social distancing options.

Feel free to repost to others.  #whiterock
